The Longview

Farther along we’ll know all about it
Farther along we’ll understand why
Cheer up my brothers, live in the sunshine
We’ll understand this, all by and by

Sometimes there is music that stirs something in our souls. It reminds us of a truth that we used to believe but have since forgotten.

We forget that our society wasn't always such a fast-food culture where results are immediate and cheap. We forget that time is a necessary element in our effort. We choose the path of least resistance more often than we'd like to admit.

How many of our struggles would gain new perspective if we added the word "yet" to the end of our sentences? We forget that our parents used to tell us to "practice."

"I can't play the piano"
"I haven't done enough"
"I'm not good enough"
"My boss doesn't like me"
"I haven't contributed"

This is a song about having a long-term perspective. If we lived in a community that expected and required patience, then our community would be full of more hope than discouragement.

Be hopeful.
Be positive.
Have a longview.
